Girls weekend goes NYC!

As we all know, the holidays can be a stressful time for people. Between the holiday crowds and all of the shopping (and let’s not mention the extra Christmas pounds we pack on), sometimes it’s nice to just take a break and enjoy some YOU time! New York is one of my favorite cities. We have a ton of family up there and it is full of so much life and so much to see, do and eat! When one of my best friends brought up the idea for her and I to sneak away there for a few days,  no way was I turning down the opportunity. This momma needed a break!!!

Hotel

We definitely knew we did not want to be near all of the crowds from Rockerfellar and 5th Avenue and we also didn’t want to break the bank with Upper East Side Hotel prices so we chose to stay in the more trendy Lower East Side at Public Hotel. Public is a really cool hotel with an edgy vibe. It definitely takes a different approach on your hotel experience. All of the staff are probably in their mid to late 20’s wearing a graphic T with a blazer (total hipster chic vibes) and you check in on an iPad. Kind of cool and different.

Packing

Being from the south, I often forget just how cold it gets in New York so I don’t always pack the right stuff. Needless to say, that happened this trip and I found myself in the North Face store purchasing a water proof jacket and boots more suitable for the snow. They are now my go tos for cold weather and I wear them both all the time. Also, a plus with North Face is you receive a lifetime warranty on your jacket so it’s worth the money.

Where to Eat

As you guys have probably figured out, one of my favorite things is trying new food and great restaraunts. Here are some of my favorite spots we ate at during our trip.

Sadelles: We ordered the house Salmon, tuna tartare and bagels. It was so delicious and probably the BEST bagel I have ever had. They also have endless Mimosa’s. Perfect for brunch!

Laduree: This place is so cute and the desserts are so beautiful, you almost don’t want to eat them! I ordered the Rose Macaron filled with rose petal and lychee cream. Of course, I HAD to have a glass of Rose’ with it as well as a double shot if espresso. (All of this drinking was making me sleepy. HAHA!

Nobu Fifty Seven: We had really wanted to try this place because of all of the hype around it. Well I have to say, it didn’t disappoint at all!  We had the Big Eye Tuna Tatake and some Edamame to start, then shared the Spicy Bigeye Tuna and Yellowtail Jalepeno Rolls. My girlfriend and I both agreed it was some of the best sushi we have ever had.   Just make sure you make your reservation WAY in advance. We made ours a month out on Open Table and there were only 9 slots left. (Wwwwhhhhhhaaaatttttt???)

Doughnut Plant: When we heard there was an amazing doughnut place near our hotel, OBVIOUSLY I had to go see for myself. (My doughnut obsession is so REAL. Ugh.) I can’t even begin to tell you what all I ordered because it was kind of a lot. So embarrassing, I know but I swear I brought a bunch home to my kids. Really….I swear.

I hope some of these recommendations help you plan your next trip to NYC. We go there a few times a year so I will be posting stuff on the blog often with recommendations of things to do and see. What are some of your favorite spots to visit in NYC?

Ciao Ya'll!
